1 MARC
Le format MARC (machine readable cataloguing) est un format international permettant le stockage et l’échange de notices bibliographiques au moyen d’une codification des différentes parties de la notice (auteur, titre, éditeur, etc.) pour traitement informatique. Plusieurs versions MARC voient le jour dans les années 1970, chacune correspondant à une pratique nationale de catalogage: INTERMARC en France, UKMARC au Royaume-Uni, USMARC aux Etats-Unis, CAN/MARC au Canada, etc. L’existence de versions différentes posant de gros problèmes pour l’échange des données, l’IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations) crée en 1977 un format universel, l’UNIMARC. Les notices dans le format MARC d’origine sont d’abord converties en UNIMARC avant d’être converties à nouveau dans le format MARC de destination. Le format MARC est défini par la norme ISO 2709:1996 (ISO: Organisation internationale de normalisation). -
2 IFLA
Fondé en 1927, l’IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations) est un organisme international représentant les intérêts des bibliothèques et des centres de documentation. Avec 1.700 membres dans 150 pays, cette fédération se veut un carrefour pour l’échange d’idées et la promotion de la coopération internationale et de la recherche. En 1971, l’IFLA élabore l’ISBD (international standard bibliographical description) pour l’échange des données bibliographiques à l’échelon international. Plusieurs normes suivent ensuite, notamment, en 1997, la norme ISBD(ER) pour la description bibliographique des documents électroniques. En 1977, l’IFLA crée le format UNIMARC (universal machine readable cataloguing) afin de disposer d’un format international permettant la conversion des formats MARC (machine readable cataloguing) nationaux. -
3 UNIMARC
(universal machine readable cataloguing)Créé en 1977 par l’IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations), le format UNIMARC (universal machine readable cataloguing) est un format universel permettant le stockage et l’échange de notices bibliographiques au moyen d’une codification des différentes parties de la notice (auteur, titre, éditeur, etc.) pour traitement informatique. Ce format permet de favoriser les échanges de données entre les différents formats MARC existants, qui correspondent chacun à une pratique nationale de catalogage (INTERMARC en France, UKMARC au Royaume-Uni, USMARC aux Etats-Unis, CAN/MARC au Canada, etc.). Les notices dans le format MARC d’origine sont d’abord converties au format UNIMARC avant d’être converties à nouveau dans le format MARC de destination. UNIMARC peut également être utilisé comme "modèle" pour le développement de nouveaux formats MARC. -
4 ISO
Basée à Genève (Suisse), l’ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) définit les normes permettant de faciliter l’échange international des biens et des services. L’ISO a également pour tâche de développer la coopération internationale dans divers domaines (économique, intellectuel, scientifique et technique). Des normes ISO régissent entre autres l’ASCII-Latin-1 (ASCII: American standard code for information interchange), l’ISBN (international standard book number) ou l’UNIMARC (universal readable machine cataloguing).
